Hello from all of us at The Curtain Club Theatre. We hope that you and your family are healthy and that you have been able to find moments of happiness and joy during this unusual time.

As many of you know from previous communications, our theatre remains closed until the spring of 2021. Currently, our intention is to stage the last two plays of 2019-2020 so that audiences will have an opportunity to see these wonderful productions. Tempting Providence, the winner of the ACT-CO award for best production, is scheduled for March and the very funny musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, is scheduled for May.

However, the safety and comfort of our actors, crew, patrons, and volunteers is of utmost importance to us. Please know that we are doing everything we can to maximize a safe theatrical experience for everyone. We will keep you up-dated if there are any changes to our plans.

I want to assure you that The Curtain Club Theatre is in the fortunate position of being able to weather this hiatus. We are in a solid financial position and, with generous donations from patrons and members, we can manage the closure for the foreseeable future.

As I sit here looking out at an empty theatre on what would have been the opening weekend of the first play of our new season, I’m reminded how much I miss the hum, buzz, and energy of our audience. I’m optimistic that it won’t be long until we’re back together enjoying the wonderful theatre for which The Curtain Club is known.

Although we have not been performing live on stage, your community theatre has been active during this time. We have been busy creating an Online Theatre Series of FREE One Act Plays for you, our loyal audience.  We hope this series will help to keep you entertained and engaged until we can once again meet in person.

The first productions of the The Curtain Club Online Theatre Series will take place over October and will include three short one-act plays performed and filmed on our stage in front of a small audience of our volunteers. The first play is the comedy, Chocolateby Frederick Stroppel, the second play is the adapted short story, The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, and the final play is the comedy, Enid and Pearl Have Tea by Lyn McCauley & Gretchen Huntley.

We know that you will enjoy seeing some of your favourite actors perform their magic once again from the safety and comfort of your home. Specific dates to view these plays will be forwarded in a couple of weeks and accessing them will be as easy as viewing this video message.

We are also pleased to announce that our Online Theatre Series will continue with two plays written by Curtain Club members: a great new mystery, Close to Death by Joan Burrows later this year and a fantastic new comedy, Surrender Dorothy by Liz Best early in 2021.

Information about The Curtain Club Online Theatre Series will also be available on our website at thecurtainclub.org.

We have received some wonderful letters of understanding and encouragement from our patrons and members. Thank you so much for your continued support of The Curtain Club. I personally have been touched by the deep connection many of you have to our theatre and to those of us who strive to bring to you an excellent live theatrical experience.

Rest assured that The Curtain Club Theatre will endure and, with the kind support of our theatre family, we will continue to provide high quality productions that offer creative opportunities, welcome and encourage diversity, and tell stories that entertain and challenge. Once we safely reach the other side of this pandemic, The Curtain Club Theatre will be here to warmly welcome you back.

Until we see you again, please stay healthy and safe.
