A Bunch of Amateurs by Nick Newman & Ian Hislop

Performance Dates: Nov 14 to 29, 2025 

Synopsis: A washed-up Hollywood star, a fierce amateur director, a pompous solicitor, a bubbly B&B owner, a sharp teen, a lovable stagehand, and an unexpectedly talented local. 

 Auditions 

  • By appointment at the theatre – 400 Newkirk Road, Richmond Hill 
  • Book an appointment for Sun, Jun 22 1:30-3:30 pm, OR  Mon, Jun 23 7:00pm- 9:30pm 
  • Call back date (if needed): Wednesday, Jun 25 7:30pm 

 Roles Available:

  • 3 Men 
  • 4 Women 
  •  Strong comedy chops and timing essential. Ages 20s–60s. 
  • **Unless a role has a specific requirement, all roles are open to performers of any background, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation. 

Audition Requirements

  •  1 – Everyone auditioning should prepare a story. 
    • Please tell us a story of a memorable theatre experience. (3 min MAX) 
  • 2 – Everyone will be given sides from the script 
    • Sections will be monologues or a section of dialogue and you will have some redirects from the director.

  • Auditions are to be booked in advance through Samantha Nixon-Moore noxinjs@gmail.com and actors will be booked for a 10 min audition

  • There is a deposit of $20 which is returned at the audition with the script being in good condition. 

Rehearsals 

  • There will be an initial Meet & Greet with a read-through on Monday, August 18 at 6:30pm 
  • Rehearsal schedule will be set after casting; generally, 2 nights a week + Sunday afternoons. Regular rehearsals will begin on September 21. 
  • Mandatory tech rehearsals for ALL cast and crew during the two weeks prior to opening. 

The Curtain Club is an award-winning community theatre celebrating its 72nd season. It is a non-profit, non-equity community theatre group. If you are cast in this show, you MUST become a member. Membership fees are $20 and are due no later than the first rehearsal.
