The Curtain Club is a premier, 100% volunteer-run community theatre in Richmond Hill, Ontario. For over seven decades, our dedicated members have worked on and off the stage to deliver top-tier theatrical productions, foster local talent, and give back to the York Region community.
Our story began in 1954 with just 25 passionate members. In those early days, we rehearsed in living rooms, built sets in local garages, and stored costumes in attics while performing wherever we could, from neighborhood schools to local halls.
As our community grew, so did our footprint:

We moved into our first official home: a converted Canadian Tire garage off Yonge Street featuring an intimate 97-seat auditorium.

Thanks to a massive member-led fundraising campaign, we opened our current purpose-built facility at the corner of Newkirk and Elgin Mills.

We expanded the building to create a larger workshop and an inviting lobby space for our audiences.

A $1.2 million expansion, giving the theatre full accessibility upgrades, expanded washrooms, a large kitchen, and improved climate control.
The Curtain Club has earned a national reputation as one of the finest community theatres in Ontario. In our early years at the current facility, we proudly hosted the legendary Royal Canadian Air Farce for the broadcast of their first few seasons.
We are deeply proud of our ties to local and provincial theatre associations. Over the years, our acclaimed community productions have been widely celebrated, bringing home prestigious awards from the Dominion Drama Festival, Theatre Ontario Festival, and Association of Community Theatres – Central Ontario Festival.

We believe in theatre that gives back. For every production we stage, The Curtain Club hosts a dedicated Charity Night performance, with proceeds directly benefiting approximately 15 local York Region charities annually. To support the next generation of creatives, we also award the annual Cicely Thomson Scholarship to a local student pursuing a post-secondary education in the arts.
Everything we do is made possible by the time, energy, and heart of our volunteers. From the actors on stage and the crews backstage to the front-of-house team greeting you at the door, we are entirely volunteer-driven. Thank you to everyone who has helped make us who we are today!
